The OIMR project is a social initiative of the Peruvian government, that aims to extend mobile cellular networks to regions with no prior service. Andesat Peru, as a part of Andesat Group, has been working for more than two years towards achieving the perfect combination for extending satellite connectivity in areas known as greenfield.
“They deserve it, they shouldn’t be left behind. That´s the reason for our commitment with Peru”.César Arrunategui, Project Manager OIMR Andesat Peru.
We arrived at lesser populated areas first, rural areas that are really isolated and without connectivity of any kind. Places where the need is more urgent. The first deployment involves 154 locations. Our prevision is to connect 400 villages towards 2021.
“This will have a strong positive impact on people’s lives, since it will help not only to communicate, but also to work better and to engage in all sorts of economic activities. They will be able to reach to the rest of the world in other ways”. Pablo Rasore, CEO Andesat Group.
We’re no alone in this. We needed partners that could be up to the challenge. Andesat Peru is part of a solution that relies on ZTE as the main equipment provider, on the ST Engineering satellite network and on satellite capability provided by Intelsat. A tremendous effort by all, and a commitment that is showing very good results.
“#TeConectamosPerú doesn’t necessarily have to do with technology, or with means of communication. It has to do with the fundamentals of connectivity, of having access to communications, of being able to talk to people, of being able to expand beyond our local realities, to open the world to regions where connectivity just didn’t exist”. Sergio Lastra, General Manager, Andesat Peru.
